High Peak Challenge - 2007 Race Results

Between Checkpoints 1 and 2

Dear Competitors

And so another year has gone!

Twelve months ago I said I didn’t intend to change the route but little did I know what was round the corner. The diversion was the nearest possible to the original route without altering the character of the event although it did make the route longer by approximately 700yds. A shorter possibility was available but it was all “road” and that would have altered the character of the event. Let’s hope that the High Peak 40 can be restored to its original route as soon as possible. I know that many of you filled out the footpath closure objection forms so we should keep our collective fingers crossed.

The other change obviously was on the catering front. What will be provided next year has now to be considered and input from you as “customers” will be useful. Please use the contact page on this website to give us your thoughts. I would like feedback on what was provided this year as well.

Certificates for the finishers will be issued by the end of October. I shall try to send them out earlier but I’m not promising.

I know that you will all agree that without the army of volunteers who turn out every year this event could not take place. They are all due our (mine and yours) most heartfelt thanks whether in catering, on checkpoints, in communications, or back up walkers and drivers. The reason why there were no hot meals has been well and truly aired but I still must thank Judy Vale for the work she did. Without her there would have been no food and drinks at the checkpoints and nothing at the end. The final thank you is to Julie Scirvin who looks after the signs and still comes out on the day and runs a checkpoint.

Next years event will I hope take place on Saturday 20th September and when all the details are finalised your entry forms will be e-mailed to you or posted if you have not provided an e-mail address.

The entry form will also be on the website – (www.highpeak40.co.uk)

Finally thanks to all of you for taking part and I hope to see you all next year.

Bill Allan

A full list of checkpoint times has now been attached -- I'm afraid it's a little difficult to read -- the headings do not quite match the times
